When Bitten Clausen founded Bitten & Mads Clausen’s Foundation on Christmas Eve 1971, she did so to cherish her husband's work of a lifetime. Mads Clausen had established the company in 1933 and since then it had greatly expanded.
Bitten felt an enormous responsibility. At the time, Danfoss employed around 10,000 people and was one of the largest industrial companies in Denmark. By placing the ownership of Danfoss within the Foundation, she created the best conditions for continuing its growth from its location on Als.
This year – half a century later – Bitten & Mads Clausen’s Foundation can celebrate its anniversary as one of Denmark's largest business foundations, with assets of over DKK 50 billion and an equity of DKK 25 billion.
