In February 2018 a movie theatre will open in Sønderborg, and it will be the most modern one in Denmark. Bitten & Mads Clausen's Foundation is one of the consortium of owners behind "The Castle", a downtown mall, in which the movie theatre is to be integrated. The consortium is investing close to 50 million Danish kroner in the building of the movie theatre.
The cinema will be 2,000 square metres with five integrated cinemas between 142 and 400 square metres each. A kiosk area, a café, serving warm food as well as a lounge area will also be included.
The fittings of the cinemas will be top quality all around, and is being financed by the present owners of the cinema "Kinorama" in Sønderborg. They will invest between 12 to 15 million kroner in the project. The new movie theatre will have a total of 545 seats. Individual cinemas will be equipped with laser projectors, that ensure the best pictures. The sound will also be extraordinary, and will come from ceiling, walls and floor. Last, but not least, all the chairs will be carefully chosen so that each guest will be comfortable and has ample space.
A conservative estimate is that around 150,000 people are expected to visit the movie theatre each year. The new facilities will also make it possible to use the cinemas for conferences in between the ordinary activities. The consortium of owners see the investment as a way of enhancing the future of "The Castle" as well as ensuring new opportunities for the customers in downtown Sønderborg.
