Together with A. Enggaard A/S, Bitten & Mads Clausen’s Foundation has bought another of the vacant sites within the town’s harbour area. This is a piece of land next to the Videnshuset, which was put up for sale with the name of "Office B".
The General Strategy for the New Development in Sønderborg
There has been considerable investment in the harbour area of the town. For Bitten and Mads Clausen’s Foundation, it forms part of a general strategy to ensure that the planned projects around the town’s harbour are implemented.
In line with Frank Gehry’s masterplan for the area, the investors will construct an office building. The well-regarded architect firm, Schmidt Hammer Lassen, has drawn up a proposal for the construction on the site. They are continuing to work on the details of the architecture and dimensions of the project.
In the coming years, in cooperation with A. Enggaard, we will add a further 3.000 m2 office area to the town’s harbour. It is a new and important step in the overall implementation of the masterplan. It emphasises our focus on the project for which we, together with Sønderborg Municipality, laid the foundation stone in 2006.

The plans for the newly purchased plot mean that construction work will be taking place for the next couple of years along the waterfront. Out of consideration for guests visiting Alsik, it has been decided to carry out the pile driving in the early stages of 2019. In this way, the noisiest activity will be completed before the hotel opens on the 6th of May.
At the end of 2018, A. Enggaard A/S established a presence in Region Syd (South Region), by building an office in Fredericia. This was in order to become more visible in the southern part of Denmark.
We are very pleased with the excellent cooperation we have developed with Bitten and Mads Clausen’s Foundation in previous projects. We are now delighted to be given the opportunity to continue this partnership on the waterfront in Sønderborg. A. Enggaard A/S was responsible for the construction of Videnshuset, which was completed in 2013, and we are due to hand over the Alsik Hotel and Spa in the Spring of 2019. Both building constructions are situated in the harbour, and it is a pleasure that we can now contribute to the continued expansion of this part of the town through an exciting office building adjacent to the Videnshus.

The construction of the new office building will commence in 2019 and is expected to be completed by 2020. With the initial purchase completed, the investors are continuing with the preparation of the preliminary plans. This work is based on the original idea proposal from Schmidt Hammer Lassen, from whom the illustration for this article originates.
