The frame is still unfinished, but work is progressing on Sønderborg's new concert and event venue, which has been named Sergenten (the Sergeant).
This was celebrated with a topping-out ceremony on November 11th, 2021, where craftsmen, architects, the developers, and representatives from Alsik came to take a look. Only the original outer walls and the roof trusses remain on the former workshop of Sønderborg Barracks. It is within that shell that a completely new building will be created.
A new roof is now protecting the building, and the interior floors and walls have been planned to modern day standards – respecting the original nature and location of the old Barracks.
Zeni Arkitekterne a/s from Aabenraa are the professional contractors leading the work on Sergenten. These architects also designed the project. Bitten & Mads Clausen’s Foundation is the developer. The establishment of Sergenten will be an extension to the Steigenberger Alsik Hotel and Spa. Sergenten will make it possible to host more and larger events, conferences, and concerts than the hotel can accommodate today.
The construction work is being carried out on a tight schedule, as Sergenten is already booked to be in use by June 2022, for the IEA International Conference. This will be followed by the visit of the Tour de France to Sønderborg, for which Sergenten will also be used.
Sergenten will offer a beautifully spacious setting with modern facilities. The large hall on the ground floor can be used for many purposes: trade fairs, concerts, corporate events, and conferences. Layouts and furnishings can be changed, giving flexibility to scale events according to the number of participants.
In addition to the large hall, Sergenten will contain an exclusive lounge area on the 1st floor suitable for many different purposes. The kitchen facilities will be state-of-the-art, so guests at any event can be pampered with both food and drink.
