On Monday the 25th November, Peter Mads Clausen received The Golden Anvil 2019, the Jydske Vestkysten’s (a prominent Danish newspaper) business award.
The Golden Anvil
It is the 35th time the prize has been awarded and it has previously been given to other strong companies and business leaders in the region. Jørgen Mads Clausen had earlier received it in 2005, whilst he was CEO of Danfoss. Representatives of Ecco, Sydbank, Lego and Fuglsang have also been recipients of the award.
The Golden Anvil is awarded to a person, or a group of people, who have taken outstanding initiative or have been particularly proactive in the business community of the region, to the benefit and enjoyment of the community.
Peter Mads Clausen was both honoured and delighted to receive the special prize.
It always means even more when you receive an unexpected recognition. And this certainly was – completely unexpected. It is an honour to be part of such exalted company.
Peter Mads Clausen, Chairman of Bitten & Mads Clausen’s Foundation
In addition to serving as chairman of the Bitten & Mads Clausen’s Foundation, Peter Mads Clausen received the award for his success at Danfoss, as well as for his involvement in several other entrepreneurial companies during his business life.
The editor-in-chief of Jydske Vestkysten, Mads Sandemann, said in his speech:
Although you are the second generation in one of Denmark’s largest companies, not only have you led the development of the well-established group, Danfoss, you have also retained the entrepreneurial drive that so characterised your father. You are passionate about the development of Als and Southern Jutland. It must be attractive to live and to work in this region. With this being the strategic aim of your 20 years as president, the BMC has invested a billion DKK in many projects, both small and large.

He also mentioned Peter Mads Clausen’s considerable investments in a large number of southern Danish technology companies as well as the many projects the Foundation has supported during his term: The Development Council of Southern Jutland, the football team SønderjyskE, Alsion, Project Zero, Universe and Sønderborg Airport.
Other speakers included the Sønderborg Mayor, with whom Peter Mads Clausen has had a close ongoing working relationship in the development of, for example, Sønderborg Waterfront and the future holiday resort of Nordals.
In his speech, Erik Lauritzen stressed how much everyone in the area agreed that Peter Mads Clausen fully deserved this award. “You have achieved something very special”, said Erik Lauritzen who himself was involved in the appointing of Peter Mads Clausen as an honorary citizen on his 70th birthday in September.
Erling Duus, Chairman of the industrial group in Sønderborg, also gave a speech to the recipient. He said:
The big projects, that we all know, are very visible, especially here in Sønderborg, be it education, infrastructure or tourism. You are always ready when a good idea crops up. Working sometimes on your own, other times with others. But I am sure that many voluntary associations would like to give you an award. They do not do award ceremonies, but they offer you a warm handshake and you can see the gratitude in their eyes. Many of the small associations that you have supported with a big heart then go on to help others.
