In June 2025, Center Parcs Nordborg Resort opened on the island of Als. Now, just six months later, the holiday park has achieved DGNB Gold certification—an internationally recognised standard for sustainability. Nordborg Resort is the first holiday resort in Europe to receive this prestigious recognition.

About the DGNB Certification

The DGNB (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Nachhaltiges Bauen – German Sustainable Building Council) certification is an internationally recognised standard used to measure, collaborate on, and promote sustainability throughout the built environment.

From the resort's early planning stages, the focus has been on solutions that have the least possible impact on the surroundings. Building materials have been carefully selected for their recyclability and optimal resource utilisation. Energy consumption is kept low through a heating supply based on biomass and heat pumps, and rainwater retention basins collect surface water for the park's lake.

Sustainability Strategy

The DGNB Gold certification is part of Center Parcs' overall sustainability strategy. All new resorts must meet the requirements of DGNB, Green Key, and ISO 14001. The certification does not cover the Aqua Mundo water park.

To make space for wildlife, a wildlife corridor has been established at Nordborg Resort. In collaboration with the Danish Society for Nature Conservation, the nature surrounding the resort has been enhanced, for instance, by creating waterholes for European tree frogs.

Together with landscape architects, trail systems have been established that respect the surroundings and focus on biodiversity. This is all done to create a holiday experience where guests can enjoy resort life close to forests and the coast.

The DGNB Gold certification for Nordborg Resort is a fantastic confirmation of our commitment to sustainability and responsible tourism development. It shows that we not only create unique holiday experiences but also do so in accordance with the highest environmental and social standards.

We are seeing a trend where more people are choosing to holiday in Denmark because they want to spend time together without travelling far. We have built the resort with this in mind. It is designed to give families that warm holiday feeling, but in a setting where nature and tranquillity are still close at hand, and where there is also space for a wealth of nature-based activities focused on play and learning.

Niels Feerup, CEO of Nordborg Resort A/S

With the Gold certification, Nordborg Resort establishes itself as a strong contender for the type of holiday many families are seeking: one that provides a feeling of being far away from everyday life, close to the sea and beach, and combines experiences and togetherness without long travel times.
